Argentina’s teamwork prevails over fierce Cuban López

 

Resistencia, Argentina, August 19, 2015 - Despite an astonishing performance from Cuba’s Miguel Ángel López, the last Round of 16 match in Resistencia belonged to the host team, as Argentina shook off the Caribbean side 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-19) and qualified to the quarterfinals.

López was a true headache for the home favourites as he unfolded 23 points, but Cuba lacked of offensive options to round up the win. The energy on the visitors also went dropping as Argentina applied pressure on the board.

On Argentina, Jan Martínez was at the helm again with 16 tallies, well supported by fellow outside-hitter Felipe Benavídez (12) and middle-blocker Agustín Loser, who built 6 stuff blocks and a total of 10 points.

The result gave shape to an electrifying match on the next phase - Argentina v Brasil. The South American rivals will meet once more, to decide a semifinal berth.
