Balague’s dream game carries Argentina to victory over Brazil

Resistencia, Argentina, August 21, 2015 - At another edition of the South American “classical” match, Argentina overcame Brazil 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20) to achieve an unforgettable semifinal spot at home soil at a packed Alejo Gronda Hall in Resistencia.

Opposite Manuel Balague had the best game he could ever dream for, as he was the brightest star of the game with 18 points. Captain Felipe Benavídez scored 13 times, many of them during a first set that had Argentina trailing all along, until the very end.

Brazil was led by athletic spiker Daniel Martins de Pinho and his match-high number of 19 kills, while Kaio Ribeiro uncorked 17 points. However, the visiting side fell into unforced errors at some key moments of the game, smoothing Argentina’s path to a priceless victory over their archrivals.

Argentina will now face Russia having already improved their previous campaign - a sixth place in Mexico 2013. Brazil will take on USA on the semifinals for the 5th place, also on Saturday.
