China continue rampant and wipe Turkey en-route to quarterfinals

Resistencia, Argentina, August 19, 2015 - After their initial setback in the hands of Cuba, now China seems unstoppable in Argentina. Current silver medalists handled a clear defeat to Turkey by 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) and entered the quarterfinals stage.

Yu Yuantai acted once more as flag-bearer for China, with a fine number of 5 blocks and a total count of 17, supported by Zhou Liying and Tao Zixuan, with 11 and 10 points respectively. On a team basis, the Asians performed better than Turkey on everything - more spikes, blocks and aces, and also fewer unforced errors.

Only Adis Lagumdzija could score relatively often on Turkey, with 16 conquests in his scoring sheet. Coach Salih Tavaci tried several substitutions to change the flow of the game, but it was useless against China’s never-ending energy.

China will now face Poland among the tournament’s top eight teams, in a mouth-watering promise of high volleyball. Turkey will have another Asian stop as Japan stand next on their way.
