Iran passed through Germany and headed to the Quarterfinals

Corrientes, Argentina, August, 19, 2015 – Iran passed through Germany in straight sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-22) and advanced to the World Championship Quarterfinals, to be held in Resistencia. Aghchehli Rasoul scored 15 points to give the Iranian the ticket to the next round.

Maximilian Auste’s stomach illness left Germany without its best scorer. From scratch, Iran punished hard with the service and complicated the German reception, making it hard for the attackers to hurt the Asians. Even in unforced errors (18-17), the difference in block (10-6) and service (9-3) was notorious and determinant for the final result.

Esmaeil Mosaferdashliboroun accompanied Aghchehli Rasoul scoring with 12 points, and Mirbabak Mousavigargari came from the bench to contribute with 7. Moritz Rauber led the German resistance with 9, but it was Lukas Maase who set the thermometer with a bunch of blocks.

Iran will now have to deal with Italy, that overcame France in a 5-set match played in Resistencia. The French will be Germany’s next opponents, staying in Resistencia for the loser’s part of the draw.
