Even though Italy was already safe on the top when they moved to a 2-1 score, they fought until the end ledy by Gabriele Di Martino. The middle-blocker was the most prolific scorer on his side with 22 points, six of them from killing blocks. Three other Italian players rounded up double numbers - Roberto Cominetti (18), Gianluca Galassi (15) and Paolo Zonca (14).
