Martínez shines and Argentina smile after win over Turkey

Argentina boys are ecstatic after another win at home soil

Resistencia, Argentina, August 16, 2015 - Club Sarmiento’s Alejo Gronda Hall in Resistencia was packed again for Argentina’s second triumph at FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship. The crowd favourites bounced back on time to defeat Turkey 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17) with another fine night of Jan Martínez.

The son of a historical player as Esteban Martínez - bronze medalist on the 80’s, unveiled 19 spikes and carried the flag for his side, escorted by opposite Manuel Balague with 14 points. As the match went on, Argentina got stronger and finished with a classy display, for the delirium of more than 4’000 fans.

Turkey’s outcome was completely different as their spirit started to deflate when Argentina improved. Abdullah Cam was the most prolific scorer with 12 points, only one more than teammates Berkay Bayraktar and Adis Lagumdzija.

The result ejected Argentina to Pool A top spot, with 5 points and a campaign of 2-0. Turkey share the trail together with USA and France - all with 4 points.
