Russia crushed Japan in a straight-set overwhelming victory

 

Corrientes, Argentina, August, 16, 2015 – Russia overrun Japan in an uneven match played in Regatas’ Arena in front of more than 2500 spectators (25-20, 25-16, 25-17). The defending champions reacted and won after their unsuccessful debut against Brazi, trailing now a 1-1 record and tying Japan with 3 points but one match less in Pool D.

Anton Semyshev led the score with 14 points, just 1 point ahead of Aleksel Kononov who jumped to the field in the first set. Yuki Suzuki and Yoshiki Ohmi were the most distinguished players in Japan, with 9 and 7 points respectively.

The difference between both teams was clear and had statistical support, as Russia outscored Japan in spike points (46-28), service (6-0) and blocking (9-1). Aleksei Knonov’s contributed with an impressive 90% spiking efficiency, improving Anton Semyshev’s 71%.

Japan will have a day off this Monday, while Russia will face Puerto Rico in the night shift in Corrientes.
