Full house for the opening ceremony in Resistencia
Resistencia, Argentina, August 14, 2015 - The night before FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship started in Argentina, these young players from all over the world were witnesses of a remarkable opening ceremony, providing them with memories that will be cherished as their careers develop.
Considering FIVB is boosting age group competitions as a way to attract youngsters to the healthy life of sport and high competition, the event held in Resistencia - main venue of the tournament in Argentina, contributed to this long-term goal.
All 20 teams as well as FIVB and local authorities gathered at Gala Convenciones Hotel in Resistencia for an opening ceremony that started around 8 PM (local time), after all training and protocol activities scheduled for Thursday.
As a proof of the importance of the tournament, not only in both cities but also for the whole country, national Sport Secretary Carlos “Camau” Espínola and Chaco province Governor Jorge Capitanich were part of the ceremony, alongside Argentinean Volleyball Federation President Juan Antonio Gutiérrez and FIVB Control Committee President Amilton Barreto de Barros Jr.
After some words from all authorities, hundreds of spectators - including the players enjoyed a show from local performers in which the history of Chaco province was portrayed, from the first inhabitants to the colonial times, from immigrant flowing to current times. Local folk dancers also showed some typical aspects of the Argentinean culture.
Afterwards, a pair of players from all the teams jumped on stage to salute the audience, as the perfect way to close the event and shape up a bunch of unforgettable memories for these young players.
