Team profile

Germany

Germany took the spot for the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship after reaching fourth place in the continental tournament. Coach Matus Kalny assembled a good team led by captain and setter Stefan Thiel. The team is full great talents such as outside spiker Maximillian Auste, who won best scorer at the European Championship, and middle blocker Tobias Krick, one of the tallest players in his age group. Germany have a tough task but they are focused to become among the eight best teams at the U19 World Championship.

Matus Kalny

Matus Kalny

Matus Kalny was born in Bratislava, Slovakia. He succeeded Stewart Bernard as coach of the German team in 2012. Although Kalny belongs to the young generation of coaches, he has earned many experiences in coaching teams such as VSG Coburg/Grub for three years, Austrian club Schwechat and Swiss club Nafels. Kalny’s biggest achievement as coach of the German squad to date was the fourth place finish at the European Championship this year.
