Overview

Team profile

One of the top powers of world volleyball, Russia (and it's predecessor, USSR) has also been prolific in the age-group events of the FIVB. Russia is only second to Brazil in medals won at the Youth/U19 World Championships since the introduction of the competition in 1989.

This includes gold medals in 1999, 2005 and 2013, as well as a couple of silver in 1989 and 1991 (both as Soviet Union) and a bronze in 2001.

The current team won gold at the 2014 Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association Boys Youth Championship, but finished a mere fifth at the 2015 European Boys Youth World Championship.

Still Russia is now aiming at defending in Argentina the title the country won at the 2013 U19 World Championship in Tijuana.
