Argentina shake off tension and prevail over Belgium

Resistencia, Argentina, August 17, 2015 - It was another test for home boys Argentina at Monday’s last game, one where they had to regain calm and control. The local side grabbed their third win with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19) over Belgium, relying as usual on young talent Jan Martínez.

Even though it seemed that Argentina was close to a first three-nil win, Belgium found some renewed energy on the third set and delayed the closure. It was there when Martínez - top scorer with 19 points, reached his peak and showed the path to the victory.

Felipe Benavídez and Manuel Balague backed up Martínez with 12 and 11 points respectively. On Belgium, captain Simon Peeters was atop of the list with 10 conquests, as the team mostly fed on Argentina’s mistakes.

The result not only sent Argentina to the next round but also allowed them to remain on Pool A’s top spot, with 8 points. Belgium is at the other end of the table and they need a big win over Turkey on Tuesday to at least think on the next phase.
